 Free VerseBelieving in yourself

by Brinna E.

Going up to bat

score is 7 to 7 in the last inning 2 outs

it’s hotter than Hades outside

sweat is dripping down your shirt

you’re up to bat

you look at the bases

1st

2nd

3rd

no one is on the bases

you’ve only hit the ball to the infield before

you go to home plate

you get squared up

the coach in the dugout says to “swing through”

you tell yourself you can do it

believe.

breath in,

breath out,

the pitcher pitches the ball

the ball is coming

1

2

3

the ball gets to the bat

you swing through as hard as you can

run

run

dropping the bat

you round first by a long shot

then 2nd base

you look back

the ball is over the fence

Homerun.

the ump whirls his arm around and says “homerun”

you go and go till home plate

getting their you see all of your teammates

cheering,

grateful,

excited,

overjoyed,

you look over and your coach is smiling saying

“I told you, you could do it!”

score 8-7

we won!
