Bump, Set, Spike

I’m sweating

I’m nervous

I’m anxious

I let my hands rest on my knee pads

Then I prepare to hit the ball

The serve comes over the net

I lean to bump it

Someone sets it

Someone spikes it

Over the net

We make the point

It’s my turn to serve

I’m nervous again

I hit the ball over the net

Almost missing

Just barely making it

A girl bumps it

Someone is running

They won’t make it in time

I come in sliding on my knees

I can feel the burn through my knee pads

I bump it

Hard enough to make my arms red
