The Game, My Game
Sport
I want to have
the feeling of
sweat
dripping
down
my back
as we
crush
the opposing team
in victory.
My energy is
fueling up
building
and building.
I want to have
the feeling
of being an
earthquake.
Rippling
down
the court
as fast as
I can.
The opposing crowd
will be
watching in
horror.
There will be
3.46 seconds
left in
the game.
I run
as fast as
I can.
Using up
the rest of
my energy
that’s left.
I can feel
my heart
beating
as fast as
I run.
The opposing crowd
gasping
as I make the
last point.
I can imagine
the future game
going
over
and over
in my mind.
Practicing before
the game
gets me
more
and more
excited for
the game.
The buzzer goes off,
signaling that
the game
is going to
start.
We take the ball
down and back
again
and again
on the court.
I feel an
urge
of energy,
it makes me
want
to try
harder.
I’m not going
to give up
now.
Nor will I
ever
give up.
We do our
best.
In the end
we
lose.
The game
I pictured
in my mind
didn’t
happen
today.
I’m huffing
and puffing
for air.
Exhaustion
is starting
to take over
me.
We never
gave up
during
the game.
We fought
for a win.
But we
can’t
win everything.
I will
end up
forgetting
this loss
and go on
with
my game.

The Game I Love
Small Moment
It’s the
last inning
of the game,
we’re down by three points.
We’re batting
and we have
two outs.
I’m sitting in the dugout
awaiting
for my turn to bat.
Sweat is
rapidly,
ploping
down my face.
My arm is
exhausted
from pitching the
whole
two innings
of the game,
so far.
My throat
throbs
from hollering at our girls.
I’m almost out
of water and
the game is
only
half way over.
I’m trying to get
every
last
little
drop
of water
I have left.
I put my, now empty,
water bottle down
and clutch my bat.
I dart out
to home plate
and get into the batting box.
I glance at the bases
and they were
loaded.
The pressure starts
building up
inside me.
The pitcher
winded up
and threw
the ball.
I swung
my bat.
I heard the
crack
of my bat
against
the ball
and knew
I hit it.
Adrenalin
now flowing
through my body
as I sprinted to first base.
I glanced where I
hit
the ball,
it landed
deep
in left field.
The left fielder
wasn’t even
close
to the ball.
I dashed to second
hoping
the left fielder
doesn’t get to the ball.
Glancing once again,
I saw the left fielder
had the ball.
She was
scrambling
to get closer to
throw the ball.
I
dodged
to third,
I got my lead off.
I was
searching
for the ball with
worried eyes.
I stop in my steps
when I see the ball
whiz to home plate.
My heart started to
beat
out of my chest.
I was
daring
the catcher to
throw the ball.
She threw it to the third baseman
and the third baseman threw it
right back to her.
The ball kept going
back and forth.
I was finally in my
first pickle
this season.
I heard the ball
fall
on the ground
and I
took off to home plate.
I slid into home,
feeling the
gritty sand
against my soft hands.
I jogged into the dugout
and all of my teammates
were giving me
high fives.
That’s when it hit me,
I hit a homerun.
I hit a homerun!
I HIT A HOMERUN!
And brought
three teammates
in to score.
I just got our team ahead by one! |
The Next Day
Free Verse
I lay in my bed,
thinking about
the next day.
Sometimes,
I try not to
think about
the next day.
Because then
I will think of
something
exciting going on
the next day.
Then I won’t
be able to
sleep.
Now, I’m more
tired than ever.
I’m dreading
for sleep to
come over me.
I just lay there,
keeping my mind
blank.
It takes a
long time
for me to
fall
asleep.
Finally,
I drift off
into a
deep
slumber.
I drift into
my dreams.
I drift away
from
reality
for just a
couple
hours.
That’s not
enough.

I like your star poem because it makes a star out of words, and it is the color of the night with the stars.
