Volleyball Scoring

The ball comes up,

it’s up to me to score.

It goes over the net,

the opposite player reaches up

his hand hit it over

I run up and bump it

my face skidding against

the rough sand.

The ball lands

I made the point.

Follow Your Arrow

The judges are staring

I blink

Is this a dream?

I pinch my arm

Yes, it’s all real

I pull back my

bow.

I reach for my arrow

I pull it back

letting go

oh so

forcefully

I see the arrow spin in the air

slowly reaching

it target

It spins and spins

I get dizzy

I don’t see my arrow

reach its mark

everyone is cheering.

confused I wake

Seeing people carrying

me cheering

I look over

my arrow reached the target

in victory

it had hit the yellow.

Loser

I see the rivaling team

Cheering,

Boasting,

I know

we lost.

I think

Cheaters,

Jerks,

unfair

Yeah we lost

big time

I’m done

with baseball

I’m trying out

for basketball

Science Accident

All the potions

All the experiments

Trouble is in the air

Ben looks at it all

smiling evilly.

All the colors

Red

Blue

Green

so overwhelming.

He runs over to the RED

mixing it with the

Orange.

It created fireworks

everyone claps.

He growls

He mixes the YELLOW

with it.

It turned into

a lollipop tree

everyone cheered

“Why won’t anything break?”

He yells.

Mrs. Lake laughs

“I knew you would try and

damage my potions

so I turned them

into great things,”

Ben cried and ran away.

Grandpa

Grandpa,

with his

bushy mustache, and

the way he tells his war stories.

Sure he is often yelling at the

whippersnappers across the street

and yelling at what kids today

watch on the tellie,

but grandpas are always there when you need them

most.

But

My

Grandpa

is

1

of

a

kind

Free Verse

Smile

That smile

the one that makes my day begin

the one that shines

brighter than the sun

burning into me

and my soul

oh that smile

with its perfect glow.

Free Verse

Night

Chirping crickets,

Owls hooting

Wolves, and Coyotes

howling through the night.

Life can do its own thing,

they all come alive

in the night

if only I could

stay awake

then I would be alive

in the night too.

Free Verse

Birds

Shooting up in the air

wings flap

I wish

I could fly

Fly so high

I could hear

the angels in heaven

see the stars

up close

going above the cotton

ball clouds

but it

won’t happen

Alone on earth

with nothing

bird wings

are keeping me aloft

with there soft

detailed wings

Free Verse

When the sun goes down

When the sun goes down

I see the worst of the dark

I see monsters maul

And creepers crawl

And I see the sky

falling on me

Then I see children

Sound asleep

I see them dream

The most amazing,

happy, dreams

I don’t see a soul

Getting disturbed

So I sleep

And I dream the dreams

I sleep the best sleep

Until the sun

Returns again in the sky

Bird Songs

I see the day

The day goes away

All the birds

Are gone

Not singing

Their precious songs

I don’t know why

The day must end

Can’t this all be pretend

I see the life

Of others sleep

So I weep

“I don’t want the

day to end,”

I say to momma

“But sweetie

it hasn’t ended,”

She says

“What do you mean,”

I say wiping tears

“You’re only thinking

of fear,”

Momma replies

Then I think

That when I wake

Life won’t be asleep

It will be awake

They will sing

And I will sing along

For day will come again

When a bird

Starts its morning song

Concrete/Picture Poem

School is Boring School is cool

I wake up

I go to school

Why is school

So uncool

When I see school

It ruins my day

I can’t think

Of anything good

Then it hits me

The reason why

We go to school

Because school is cool

It gets you knowledge

And a tuition for college

School is cool

No I lied it's not

it's boring

Concrete/Picture Poem

Last Lap

I circle

the last curve

I pace myself

then I speed up

I have people

on either side of me

I look left

I look right

I have to win

I sprint

their eyes go wide

I hit the finish line

That’s when I wake

from my dream

I dreamt a winner and

I woke a winner.

Sunset

The colors of the sunset

settle within me

I feel calm and

happy

The sun is warm

and the breeze sweeps across

my dark curls

The wind is greeting me

and I greet it

The wind seems to lift me

and gives me a

million little

kisses.

That sunset was beautiful

and that’s how every

sunset is for me
